Welcome to Video - Photo - Hiking - Adventures

Most of the more than 17000 Indonesian islands are situated on the RING OF FIRE where volcanoes are common. These fire spitting mountains can get pretty high. The Gunung Agung of Bali which erupted in 1963 is more than 3000 meters. And it looks much higher when you watch it from sea level from which it rises directly to the clouds.

The Agung Tour in Bali
There are two possibilities to climb Mount Agung. The longer one is from Besakih and takes between six and ten hours. I climbed this tour in 1991. It was beautiful and exhausting.
The faster path starts at Pasar Agung and takes between three to six hours. There are pictures in the photo – galery.
Both hikes are steep and tough. I recommend to use “Lekis” to support your legs with the arms. If you want to start the hike in the night to see the sunrise you should be well prepared. Besides a good flashlight (including spare batteries) or a head lamp you should have warm clothing. The night can be cold in heights above 2000 meters. All hikes are safer and more fun in the dry season (from July to September). It is recommended to go with a guide.

The Gunung Rinjani of neighbouring Lombok has got an elevation of more than 3800 meters. It takes two days to reach the top. A beautiful sunrise is guaranteed or a layer of white clouds thick like powder snow in Alaska.

Other volcanoes that can be climbed are abundant. I just mention the Gunung Batur in Bali and the famous Mount Bromo in Jawa.
Chances for good video and photography are abundant.
